Bejeweled Blitz Live: Yay, I don’t have to play Bejeweled any more!

Game: Bejeweled Blitz Live

Price: 400/£3.40

Genre: Match 3 puzzle game

Gameplay: I’m not explaining what Bejeweled is again, look at the previous two reviews if you really don’t know!

This version is paired down to just two modes, classic and twist. In twist mode you move round four gems at a time rather swapping the positions of two, it doesn’t really add much.

Classic mode has actually been made more difficult as now you have press the button corresponding to the direction you want to switch the highlighted gem. This is much less intuitive than holding A button and then a direction. If you prefer it the old way, tough, you can’t change the controls.

The big difference here is the addition of online multi-player, with up to 16 players.

Visuals and Sound: Feels more modern than numbers 2 or 3, with electronic music and a futuristic graphical interface on the menus, the gameplay fields themselves are much the same.

Like it:

  • New menu graphics are like being in a more colourful version of the Matrix code.

  • Multi-player adds a much needed competitive element.

Loathe it:

  • New control method for classic mode makes the game even worse as now it’s difficult to control as well as mind numbingly boring.

  • It’s STILL a match three game.

Worth a purchase?: If you want online multi-player above all else and don’t mind the change in the control system this could be for you. Alternatively you can play for free else where on the net, with official versions available or on one of the countless copycats.
